When a group of young people went to thank him for donating a property for the construction of the first football pitch in Riudoms, <strong>Gaud\u00ed answered them by saying, \u201cAnything for my village!\u201d<\/strong>.[\/vc_message][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<h4>Riudoms, the village of Gaud\u00ed<\/h4>\n<p>Riudoms is an agricultural town in the Tarragona, rooted in its ancestral origins. All the historical cultures have left their mark; Riudoms is rich in Iberian, Roman and Visigoth sites.<\/p>\n<p>In the 12th century, Robert de Aguil\u00f3 gave Riudoms to the knight Arnau de Palomar, and the town passed to the archbishopric of Tarragona.<\/p>\n<p>In the 13th century, the primitive church of Sant Jaume was built. In the 16th century, an adobe wall was built and the Franciscan convent of Sant Joan was constructed.[\/vc_column_text][vc_message message_box_color=&#8221;white&#8221; icon_fontawesome=&#8221;fa fa-comment-o&#8221; el_class=&#8221;destacat_plafo&#8221;]&#8221;The Gaud\u00eds, like other Occitans, arrived at Riudoms in the XVII century, attracted by its thriving industry. In 1737, in Riudoms there were 16 pots of brandy and in 1751 Riudoms paid \u00a33,102 in taxes on this business; behind Reus, Vila-seca and Valls&#8221;.[\/vc_message][vc_column_text]The Church of Sant Jaume has a very wide central nave and is an impressive height. Work began in 1593 under the direction of the French master builder Joan Mas and it was opened in 1617. At the end of the 19th century, when the vineyards were ruined by phylloxera blight, hazelnut trees began to be cultivated. Currently, Riudoms is a predominantly agricultural town. The construction of the reservoir of Riudecanyes promoted crop irrigation.<\/p>\n<p>A series of local festivals are held, including the Hazelnut Fair. Major winter festival.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Holy Week<\/strong> <em>(March or April)<\/em>. The &#8220;Pictures of the Passion of Jesus&#8221;, 7 moments in the last days of Christ, are performed. Good Friday is the staging of the Agony or the Seven Words and the procession of the Holy Burial.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Feast of the Holy Relics<\/strong> <em>(2nd Sunday in May)<\/em>. Started following a prayer from the village to end a drought in the 17th century.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Local Festival<\/strong> <em>(1st weekend in July)<\/em>. The residents from each district dress up and parade with their floats. The heir and heiress are chosen from among the candidates submitted by each district.<\/p>\n<p><strong>San Jaime<\/strong> <em>(25th July)<\/em>. Main summer festival.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Hazelnut Fair<\/strong> <em>(2nd weekend in August)<\/em>. This has its origins in the San Lorenzo Fair, dating back to 1559. Nowadays it is an agricultural fair dedicated to hazelnuts and local produce.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Feast of the Blessed<\/strong> <em>(November 24)<\/em>.
